Preventing Falls is Key to Staying Active & Independent

An elderly couple walks hand-in-hand along a path in a park, surrounded by greenery and trees.

You can't turn back the hands of time, but you can take steps to help stay active and independent by preventing falls.

Falls are a major threat to the health and independence for adults ages 65 and older. They're the leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations of older adults in our state. Falls are not a normal part of the aging process and can be prevented!

Fact Sheet: Falls - The Biggest Threat to Senior Health and Safety

For many older adults, falls are caused by gradual health changes related to aging such as chronic health conditions, medication use and changes in muscle strength, balance, vision and walking ability. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to manage these health factors to help you stay active and independent for life.
